Unusual Crowd Theatre Company
Unusual Crowd Theatre Company is a non-profit theatre company dedicated to producing bold, thoughtful and innovative theatrical performances, while actively supporting professionally trained actors back into the industry.
Our work is driven by a passion for storytelling and stagecraft. We create actor-led productions that are stripped back, ambitious and emotionally precise - pushing beyond traditional approaches to theatre while remaining deeply rooted in text, performance and ensemble. Our aim is to create work that feels alive, honest and impactful for both artists and audiences.
The company exists to support actors with gaps in their careers - our members include parents and carers who needed time away, and newly trained actors navigating a challenging post-Covid industry.
We produce public performances so our members can gain the professional credits required for their Equity cards, while working in a serious, supportive rehearsal environment.
Unusual Crowd Theatre Company runs entirely on goodwill. Our directors, producers, teachers, filmmakers and actors all offer their time pro bono, allowing us to keep rehearsals and training free and accessible. This model removes financial barriers while maintaining a high professional standard and a strong sense of shared responsibility.

PEOPLE WE ARE LOOKING TO COLLABORATE WITH:
ACTORS
We welcome trained actors who are committed, instinctive, and ready to be part of a focused, collaborative team.
We’re looking for performers who bring energy, discipline, and generosity to the process — fully investing in the work and contributing to making the production a success.
PLAYWRIGHTS
We welcome playwrights developing original work that feels considered and purposeful. We’re interested in writing that explores complexity, holds emotional weight, and speaks to the present moment. Particularly scripts engaging with political and social themes, while challenging audiences and remaining rooted in human experience.
DIRECTORS
We are seeking directors with a strong artistic vision and a collaborative approach. We value those who prioritise clarity, nuance, and performance, and who are skilled at drawing out truthful, compelling work from actors, shaping projects that resonate emotionally and offer fresh perspectives.
PRODUCERS
We’re looking to connect with producers who are thoughtful, organised, and creatively engaged — those passionate about developing meaningful work and supporting artists through process. We are particularly interested in producers with an idea they want to develop, to collaborate together on bringing it to life.
FILM MAKERS
We’re looking for filmmakers with a clear creative voice and a project in mind — short or feature-length. We’re drawn to work that is emotionally precise, socially aware, and engages with political realities, telling urgent, relevant stories that reflect contemporary life and invite audiences to think more deeply.
TECH & STAGE TEAM
We’re looking to work with technical team members and stage managers who are reliable, proactive, and take pride in their craft. We value those who can work closely within a team, to what to push the boundaries of creativity, bring clarity and organisation to the process, and play a key role in delivering a smooth, high-quality production.
