About Us
Our Theatre Company

Unusual Crowd Theatre Company is a non-profit theatre collective based in Cambridge, supporting professionally trained actors returning to the industry after a break in their careers.
We create bold, collaborative theatre that brings together emerging and experienced performers to produce distinctive stage work in Cambridge. Our mission is to support artists re-entering the profession while building an inclusive and innovative theatre community.
Our first production was The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, staged at Storey’s Field Centre in Cambridge in April 2026. This contemporary adaptation by playwright Anya Reiss reimagines Chekhov’s classic play through a modern, queer-friendly lens while preserving the emotional depth and wit that have made The Seagull one of the most influential works in theatre history.
Our Offerings
We are dedicated to supporting professionally trained actors who may be facing a gap in their careers get back into stage work. We do this by running professionally staged performances, helping them earn essential hours towards their equity cards and keep their passion for the craft alive.
Our workshops provide a platform for actors to delve into specific aspects of performance, from character development to improvisation and beyond. Led by active industry professionals, they offer actors a chance to continue to expand their acting repertoire and broaden their artistic horizons.
Our acting classes give actors the opportunity to keep their craft alive between productions, build new skills and continue developing as performers. Led by active industry professionals, they are designed to keep actor training accessible, relevant and rooted in current industry practice, while providing a supportive environment where actors can continue to challenge themselves and grow.
